My first blog entry

The problem with prostitution is that in many countries (in particular prohibitionist ones, but also in abolitionist and neo-abolitionist ones to a varying extent) prostitution is forced underground. As a consequence, more often than not, organised crime becomes involved, and prostitutes are made more vulnerable (most cannot work independently, and become dependent on pimps and procurers, and are at the total mercy of their clients, who may demand unsafe sexual practices). This is important from a public health point of view in the era of re surging STDs and an HIV/Aids pandemic. For this reason, international organisations such as the World Health Organization have abandoned moralistic approaches and adopted a pragmatic attitude, instead. 8. The prohibitionist and abolitionist approaches furthermore have the disadvantage of enshrining a certain double standard. In many countries applying these approaches, for example, having paid sex itself is not prohibited, but offering paid sex is. The height of hypocrisy is that even where prostitutes are sanctioned, clients often are not.”

  1. Lovely to read your first blog entry… and interesting point of view. I believe you are correct and if indeed safe regions and areas were created and people were educated and those who take part in this activity legally. At present as you stated there is an underworld who take advatange of prostitution, your not going to get rid as an activity as its been around forever, since men and women had urges.

By making this activity legal, it can be monitored, more statistics can be gathered, it can be made SAFE for all, and people can get taxed on their earnings, imagine how much revanue this would bring in to the UK alone. and it could be radically cleaned up.

I have never been a client to anyone, and will not be… but it was interesting read late in the evening !!! :)

  2. I think that to some degree the government wants to keep it a taboo simply because they believe too many men and maybe even woman would lose interest in relationships which would lover birth rates and not enough new blood would be born to pay taxes to pay for the baby boomers whom are all coming into retirement now and need a pension.
